Tri-lox is a Brooklyn based design and build practice led by three principals who transform reclaimed materials into handcrafted objects and architectural elements. The constant renewal of urban life presents the opportunity to practice sustainable re-creation beginning with the selection and careful deconstruction of disregarded resources that surround us. In addition to the prescribed, pre-cut design inherent in reclaimed lumber, the wood specifically has matured to a unique substance and aura upon its acquisition. Maintaining a sense of the original use, while drawing out the natural beauty and character of the material, the design process serves the specific needs and context of a given project. The designer enters an ongoing dialogue with the materials, approaching and testing the limit of each over the duration of the process and ultimately revealing the integrated elegance and capturing its distinct presence. Reintegrated into the fabric of the city, the pieces serve a new function and exhibit the potential for a sustainable urban lifestyle.
